National Trust Grasmere Gallop 10k 2011

The Grasmere Ranger Team are pleased to announce the re-launch of the Grasmere Gallop Trail Race. This popular event will take place in the stunning setting of the Vale of Grasmere and Rydal, in the heart of the English Lake District. There are many magnificent views of this inspirational landscape as you make your way around the trail.
The race route covers a mixture of terrain. The first section climbing steadily along the Red Bank Road leaving Grasmere behind and then onto the spectacular Loughrigg Terrace, an occasionally rocky path across Loughrigg Fell passing the famous Rydal Caves along the way. You then return via the shore lines of both Rydal and Grasmere, with an optional ‘water dash’ for those of you who are willing, before retuning to Grasmere village via the Red Bank Road, for a ‘grand stand’ finish on the Grasmere Sports Field.
We have reduced the length of the race this year to a 10k event. The main advantage of this being the loss of the busy A591 road section between Pelter Bridge and White Moss Common.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to fund our conservation work in Grasmere and Rydal. Your support, by participating in the Gallop, will be very gratefully received.

GRASMERE GALLOP 10k Registration
Grasmere Gallop Race registration will be open from 8.00am to 10.00am
You will receive your race number at registration. To help the registration processes please bring with you a print out of your online entry from.
Please allow plenty of time to register for the race and, please, do not leave it too late.
FUN RUN Registration
National Trust Grasmere FUN RUN registration and entries will be taken on the day ONLY. Entries will be £3.00 per person. Entries will be accepted from 8.00 am on the day and will close 1/2 hour prior to FUN RUN start time.
Race Start
To ease congestion, (and at the Police’s request) runners are requested to congregate in the ‘muster area’ on the Grasmere Sports Field, close to the registration area, 15 minutes prior to the race start time. Runners will then be escorted to the start line, a short walk away, in the village centre.
Car Parking
We are able to offer limited on site car parking on the Grasmere Sports Field site (LA22 9SJ) Please note an additional charge of £3.00 per car will be payable at the gate. We would wish to encourage you to car share wherever possible to limit the effect on the site and environment.
Public Transport
Grasmere is well served by buses. The Stagecoach 555 service is the most regular service and the nearest bus stop to the Sports Field registration area is located at Stock Lane, immediately adjacent to the site.
Baggage
We aren’t able to offer any dedicated baggage storing facilities. Those of you who park on the Sports Field site may be best advised to leave any baggage in your car as this area is also the race finish area. Please avoid leaving any valuables in your car.
Changing Facilities
Limited changing facilities will be available on the Sports Field site, located in the Pavilion.
Toilets
Toilet facilities will be available but we encourage all competitors to make use of alternative facilities en route to the event. May we ask all competitors to be respectful of the local environment, facilities and other competitors in all sanitary matters!
Timing and Results
Timings will be done using electronic bar code timing. The bar code will be attached to your race number. Please remember, no race number bar code = no time.
Results will be posted on the web site after the event.
First Aid
First Aid support will be available on the course and at the finish. It is essential that you complete the form on the back of your race number using a permanent maker pen.
Water
There will be several water stations located around the race route and at the finish area.
Race Transfers
We regret that having entered the race we will not be able to provide any refund or credit, either in full or in part, whatever the circumstances of the entrant’s non attendance.
