The Ronhill Trail Run offers all runners the opportunity to take part in one of the most beautiful trail runs in the UK.
Both the 10K and the (20K) races (see TABS above) are run over varied trail terrain keeping the runners off the main highways to enjoy the exceptional scenery of the famous twin valleys ofGreat and Little Langdale.
To celebrate the launch of the NEW Ronhill Trail Running clothing range, Ronhill have commissioned this unique and exciting race, ideally suited to test the versatility and durability of their new clothing. Launched in March 2011 and using new wicking fabrics the Ronhill Trail range has a more relaxed fit than traditional running clothing, making it ideal for trail hiking and running alike.
Representation from Ronhill will be at the event and will answer all your queries about the brand and their products.
Select The TABS above to find more information
The Ronhill 10K Trail Run starts near the head of the Great Langdale Valley and follows the Great Langdale Beck downstream to Elterwater Quarry, where it crosses the stream and returns on the narrower bridleway behind Bays Brown Farm, returning to the start via the 'old Langdale road'
The terrain is generally good to firm, the first half of the run is on well-made tracks, whilst the return becomes slightly narrower and more rugged. The run to Elterwater is flat whilst the returning bridleway and footpath do have a slight undulation to them, but in Lakeland terms are virtually level.
The 10K run is an excellent introduction to Trail running and is suitable for all levels of runners which can be walked if you prefer (cut of time 2.30 hrs) . Whilst trail specific shoes are recommended runners are allowed to run in their own choice of footwear. Which clothing to wear is at the runners discretion, however even in June the Lake District can through some awful weather at us, so be prepared.
For the more seasoned runner the Ronhill Great Langdale Trail 20K(approximate distance) offers an exhilarating run with exceptional views of both Little and Great Langdale.
Starting, as with the 10K, near the head of the Great Langdale Valley and following the Great Langdale Beck downstream to Elterwater Quarry (5K) 20K the crosses over to Little Langdale and onto Slaters Bridge via the single track trail in the woods above Elterwater quarry. Once over the bridge the trail leads via farm tracks, back roads and wooded single-track trails to the road crossing at Colwith Bridge (10K).
Once across the road, the trail follows the Cumbria Way footpath to Skelwith Bridge, where it crosses the Brathay above the falls on the new footbridge. Onwards along the edge of Elterwater Lake, with spectacular views of the Langdale Pikes, back to Elterwater Village (15K) where the 20Kroute rejoins the 10K route.
Returning to the start/finish via the Bridleway behind Bays Brown Farm and the 'Old langdale Road'
20K (approx distance) has more climbing and is over much more varied terrain than the 10K and good trail shoes and clothing are highly recommended for this run. Whilst most average runners would expect to complete the course between 2 - 2.30 hrs the cut of time is 3.30 hrs so you have plenty of time to enjoy the run, even if you are a little slower, enjoy yourself, it's suppose to be FUN !!
Water at 5K, 10K, 15K and Finish
If you are uncertain as to which run to do, we recommend the experience of the 20K, which offers greater views, more challenging terrain and ultimately you will feel a greater sense of achievement having completed this iconic run.
